When Life Turns Upside Down

What do you do when life throws you a curve ball? What about when it spins you around and turns the world upside down? Who do you turn to when you don't know who you can turn to?

These questions and many others raced through our minds rapidly this month as we faced the most unexpected and difficult trial of our time here at the Missionary Training Center. Yet, rather than focusing on the events that transpired this month, we want to highlight how God met us when we needed Him the most. How did He do that? Through His church.

When we didn't know what to do in and of ourselves, we sought the counsel of godly individuals by contacting our sending churches and speaking with our pastors, parents and family. We also asked for the prayers of those who knew us that very evening when everything transpired. When we sent out an emergency call to prayer on our ministry partner email list we weren't sure what the response would be. In the height of the storm, we felt the Lord near to us and His comforting peace strengthening us with wisdom and boldness. Our emails became inundated with replies of encouragement, our Facebooks were full of messages of prayer, our phones had a steady beep of texts from people saying they were praying for us, we received calls of concern, our mailbox was flooded with cards filled with Scripture passages, and our friends both here and far away reached out to us. While we may have initially felt alone, it did not take long for us to feel surrounded in the love and prayers of the Body of Christ.

Though the Lord does not always give us the privilege to understand why He allows certain situations to happen, if nothing else we know it was to show us just how many people really do care about us and are actively involved in our lives! We have been brought to the point of tears by the responses of everyone. You were the tangible hands and feet of Christ to us when we needed it most. No matter what the future holds, we know Who holds our future and we have great confidence in knowing that we are truly surrounded and supported by His church.

A simple "thank you" fails to convey the depth of gratitude we feel or to show just how much your prayers and words of encouragement have meant to us. We are truly honored and thankful to belong to such a caring part of the Body of Christ! Please continue to pray for us as there is still a long road ahead of us.

Together in Him,

Caitlin and Cameron
