Throughout this past week, we have experienced great opportunities to get to know both the staff here and our fellow classmates. We have also seen the hand of God in answering specific prayer requests to further equip His saints. One such answered prayer request is as follows:
The Missionary Training Center has what they call "Work Detail" for each of the students. Just like the Bible school, these are specific jobs that are distributed among the students so that we can learn how to function as a team, strengthen our work ethic, acquire skills for the field and keep costs for tuition lower because the school doesn't need more personnel to do what we are doing. As you can imagine these tasks range from working in the office to the grounds to the garage and so on.
For the past few weeks, I have been praying that God would put me on carpentry as my campus ministry. I haven't had any experience in this area but that didn't deter me. In fact, I wanted this so badly because of my lack of experience.
You see, in just over two years, I will be on a team building our house in a tribe somewhere in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and I want to be as well equipped as possible. Not only that, but construction type skills are super beneficial for both tribal ministry and life in general.
Monday was the day that they told us what we would be doing and I asked the Lord again that morning to equip me with this skill by placing me on the carpentry team. Lo and behold, as they were reading off the list for the carpentry team, he called my name! Caitlin told me later that I had a big smile on my face and looked like a little boy at Christmas. Praise the Lord!
Please continue to remember Caitlin and I in your prayers as we are here preparing to be overseas missionaries. Please pray that we would have focus in our studies, unity in our marriage and trust in the Lord for our future both in providing the finances we need and in our desire to serve the Lord in Papua New Guinea. As another praise, we have found a church to both attend and serve in while we are here these next two years! Please pray as we plug into Lake Area Evangelical Free Church and also that the Lord would make clear where He would have us serve in the community. Thank you for your prayers!
United in Christ,
Cameron and Caitlin
