Summer Shenanigans

What all did Cameron and I do this summer? As you know, we spent the summer in Florida with my parents who so graciously invited us stay with them all summer for free! We saw the Lord's provision by providing us with a place to live and summer jobs for both of us. Sometimes when you ask the Lord to provide He gives you a job and we are so thankful for that open door! My position at the OB-GYN was offered to me again and Cameron was given the opportunity to work with an electrician from church. An experience which has led to a pivotal decision that we wrote about in an earlier blog post A Spark of Interest - pun intended! We were so thankful for these opportunities of employment!

The Lord not only blessed us with a place to live and jobs but also by giving us the opportunity to meet with several friends to share about our desire to serve Him overseas in Papua New Guinea. We even had a privilege of sharing at the home group of my former campus pastor. That was such an awesome and encouraging evening and we seriously cannot wait to see them all again! We love getting together with people and feel so encouraged and energized afterward!

There were also many days of random fun! Below we have included just some of the highlights of this summer in pictorial form!

Mascot Games with friends from Bible School!

Learned the fine art of eating with chopsticks.....

Chick-fil-a's Cow Appreciation Day!

Conquering the world in Risk

Free t-shirts from Smoothie King!

Birthday roses for Caitlin's 24th!
Disney World for the day!
Hanging out with old and new friends!

This was just a joke but really funny!
Cameron needed an emergency root canal followed by a crown (of royalty, as he likes to say)

We hope this gave you a snapshot visual of our summer! We have greatly enjoyed our time in the Sunshine State despite the surface-of-the-sun temperatures. We made some wonderful new memories with my family and our friends here, both old and new! This will probably be the last update we write before we return home as, a week from Saturday, we begin the trek back up to Missouri. As always, thank you for your encouragement, support and prayers!

Caitlin and Cameron

Sharing at Reach

What better way to celebrate our ONE YEAR wedding anniversary than by sharing with our church family at Reach Orlando!? This seemed fitting because we have said since we were engaged that we wanted our marriage to glorify God and that He would use us to encourage His body and bring awareness to missions and the versatile role of the church body. At our wedding, one year ago on Sunday, we asked one of our dear teachers from the New Tribes Bible Institute to share about missions and this past Sunday, one year later, it was our turn to share.

Sunday morning we had the opportunity to share about the heart of New Tribes Mission to reach those who have little to no access to Scripture. A little bit about some of the classes we have taken in our first year at the Missionary Training Center. We talked about the  need of the over 2,000 language groups who are still waiting to hear and read God's Word in their own heart language. That's roughly 30% of the languages in the world. To show just how big that number really is we rolled out the "Sad List" containing all these languages which stretched from the front all the way to the back of the room! Finally, we briefly shared about our desire to serve the Lord as tribal church planters in the country of Papua New Guinea in the areas of translation and literacy teaching that we may see one of these names taken of that list. Only 7% of the languages have the entire Bible and it is our hope to increase that number by at least one language group!

We have loved worshiping with this church body over the summer and getting to know them individually and seeing friendships grow. We are so thankful for the opportunity they gave for us to share for a few minutes in the morning service this past Sunday and for praying for us!

For all of you who have been praying for us and supporting us - thank you so much!

United in Christ,

Caitlin and Cameron

A Spark of Interest

Caitlin and I arrived in Florida the end of May and, since that time, I have had the privilege to apprentice under an experienced electrician who just so happens to go to our church! Not only that, but he is also licensed in plumbing and in air conditioning. Needless to say, working alongside him has equipped me with so many more skills and knowledge than I comparatively had two months ago! Because of this experience, Caitlin and I have decided, along with the wisdom and counsel of others, that it would be very beneficial if I were to officially begin learning the electrician trade.

You may be wondering if this is going to require more time and thus push out our departure date to go overseas. Not at all, actually. You see, because of the blessing of technology, I have the capability of earning my diploma and gaining experience in the field of electricity while we are training at the Missionary Training Center!

There are several reasons why I am pursuing this electrician degree but the primary three are:
1) Learning as much as I can in the electrician trade will greatly benefit us on the field, specifically when we are in the tribe. When something breaks and needs to be fixed, rather than having to pay a lot of money to fly out an electrician to and from our village, I will be able to fix it myself.

2) When the time comes for us to build our house in the tribe, I'll be able to wire it myself rather than waiting for someone to come out and do it for us thus freeing them up to go help someone else.

3) Eventually Caitlin and I will come back from the field. Regardless of when exactly that will be, the truth is that, at some point in our lives, we will be coming back. Because of this, we would like something to fall back so as to not become a financial burden to our children, churches and supporters.
As you can see, Caitlin and I are extremely excited about this new and upcoming chapter of the unfolding adventure that God is leading us on! Thank you all so much for your continued prayers, encouragement and support!

United in Christ,

Cameron and Caitlin
