Just about four months until Caitlin and I begin training for overseas tribal missions at the Missionary Training Center in Camdenton, MO. We will be officially moving in to begin our schooling on August 9th.
Although we are in a season of waiting, we are finding it to still be a very busy time for the two of us. Planning for our wedding, working full-time jobs, church involvement, evangelistic outreach, meeting with missionaries on a weekly basis in order to learn from them, and the list goes on and on.
We are also spending this time raising financial support. I must admit that thus far this has been an incredibly overwhelming task for me. It has brought me to my knees pretty much on a daily basis.
From early January until about a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have really any type of Biblical understanding of support raising. Whenever the thought of asking people for money came to mind I would cringe with fear.
A few weeks ago I began reading a book called Funding Your Ministry. I must say that going through this book gave me an incredible outlook on Biblical support raising that I wish I had gained earlier on in life.
I began for the first time to see that support raising in proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth is actually a good thing. It is a tremendous blessing for both the goer and the sender. I have now started another book entitled The God Ask and this author is showing the exact same thing all throughout Scripture.
I never knew that Jesus Himself could honestly relate to raising financial support, however, what I found was that He did it all throughout His public ministry (Luke 8:1-3).
Andrew Knight said that "we must view support raising as such a reward that to withhold it from potential partners is doing them a great disservice."
God is opening up our hearts and minds to understand and know Him in a more deeper and meaningful way throughout this area. It is so true that being involved in financing the Great Commission is one of the highest honors in Scripture and we are excited because God has been opening doors for us everyday to begin raising up a team in taking His fame name to the nations.
Yesterday the good Lord gave me two opportunities to speak with two different churches about the vision that God has bestowed on Caitlin and I. Indeed, this is a time of great growth. Our trust in the Lord is growing more and more because truly everyday we are experiencing firsthand that God is faithful.
This is the vision that God has placed in our hearts: to go into an unreached people group with absolutely no access to ever hearing the Gospel of Christ, to spend a few years befriending and learning the people (i.e. their language and culture and etc.), teach them chronologically through God's Word, establish a mature and growing and reproducing church, translate the whole of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, and then leave.
Why will we leave?
So that they will never depend on the missionaries, but on the Lord Most High!
But please note: this is not a two week trip, but a lifelong service. Caitlin and I plan on staying until the work is done. This means that on the day we hand them the 66th book of God's Word, we will begin making preparations to leave the tribe trusting the Holy Spirit who started this work in them will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Therefore, if the Lord will permit us to stay, then this will at the very least, be about a twenty year long task. Because of this we cannot do it alone. This is why we are "Friend Raising." We need your prayers to make this ministry fruitful. We need your financial support to make this ministry possible.
As a team, we want to be fully involved in your life just as much as you desire to be involved in ours. We encourage you to sign up to receive our monthly newletter and keep up to date with how God is working in and through this ministry and how He is equipping us for the work of service.
We want to partner with you in the Great Commission.
Please pray for us as we continue to run full throttle in the direction of Christ our King.
Caitlin and I would like to personally invite you to prayerfully consider joining our team financially in taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a people who have never heard the good news before. We will go...will you send us? Please consider this privilege prayerfully. 2 Corinthians 9:7
